Wine Society Mistura Barossa Valley Touriga Amarela Cao Varietal Blend Portuguese Style Vintage 2014 Old Plains Wine Tasting Review

Wine Tasting Review #76

The Wine Society in Ultimo, Sydney

A members-only co-operative, The Wine Society prides itself in offering wines that have passed through their tasting panel or have been awarded trophies. I worked there for just over a year in the membership department as well as the inbound sales department and enjoyed my time there. I especially enjoyed the weekly tastings and access to some amazing drops. I remember the fun times but, at the end of the day, it was a job and I wanted to get back to enjoying wine for myself rather than having to taste everything that comes through so that I can offer it to others. We all have different palates and I’m afraid I don’t think I’ll be able to drink another SSB in my life!

Recently I had the opportunity to visit the Ultimo Wine Society store. The Ultimo store currently does weekend tastings so I was able to try a few of their drops. The tastings were quite nice but not what I was looking for that day. The store manager realised that I was looking for something a bit unique and recommended the Mistura Touriga Amarela Cao, vintage 2014.

This was an amazing drop. I hadn’t had an Australian made Portuguese style wine before and certainly hadn’t encountered these three grape varieties together.

If you’re looking for something a bit different to your usual shiraz, especially something from the Barossa, then I thoroughly recommend this one.
