Outside In Boldly Goes Celebrates Star Trek
117 Authors Write About The Original Star Trek Series for Charity.
If you have ever been interested in travelling off Earth, then you probably know about Star Trek. Well, I recently had the honor of being asked to write a short story for a new unofficial fan publication celebrating 50 years of the Original Star Trek. It is called Outside In Boldly Goes and is published by ATB Publishing. It was released on the official Star Trek anniversary date of the 8th September, and it’s totally awesome!
117 authors have contributed, many of which have written Star Trek material professionally.
The book is different. Very different! It features uniquely styled reviews of all 79 of the original episodes, animated series and movies, but in completely unique ways. From scripts, games, restaurant reviews to dreams, diary archives and logs, and more. This book is original in many senses of the word, and is a fantastic way to celebrate 50 years of Star Trek.
That Which Survives
My contribution to the book refers to Story 73. “That Which Survives” It is called “I don’t like Fridays” and is from the point of view of Hikaru Sulu, one of the main characters in the original Enterprise team on the bridge. I had some help with it, of course. The editor, Robert Smith?, worked with me to re-edit it to fit in with the style of the publication. If you get to read it, let me know what you think.
In addition to their time and effort, authors have also donated their author fees, as this book is for charity. Author fees will go to Avert, a UK-based AIDS charity.
So, if you would like to read some crazy stuff and relive the nostalgia of Star Trek the Original Series, as well as help a charity at the same time, order your book online today from ATB Publishing.

Outside In Boldly Goes
117 New Perspectives on 117 Classic Star Trek Stories by 117 Writers
Put ten Star Trek fans in a room and you’ll wind up with eleven opinions, fourteen heated debates about the color of Starfleet uniforms and somebody cosplaying Spock in a teleporter accident with a Gorn. That’s because Star Trek fans are gloriously weird, uniquely different and sometimes entirely outlandish. And so is this book.
Celebrating 50 years of Original Star Trek, Outside In Boldly Goes is a collection of 114 reviews, one for every story of the original series, the animated series, the Kirk movies and a few bonus extras.
Well, we say “reviews” but we mean that loosely: within these pages, you’ll find poems, obituaries, handbooks, DVD commentaries, letters, podcasts, games, newspaper articles, psychological reports, blogs, recipes, restaurant reviews, news broadcasts and trading cards… not to mention insightful and thoughtful articles, examining Kirk-era Star Trek from just about every aspect imaginable. And then some.
Provocative, engrossing, hilarious and utterly gonzo. These aren’t your father’s reviews.
Featuring contributions from Roseanne Welch, Robert Greenberger, Scott Harrison, Larry Nemecek, David A. McIntee, Alan J. Porter, Dan Madsen, Joseph F. Berenato, Glenn Greenberg, Rich Handley, Josh Marsfelder and Paul Simpson, and over a hundred more.
